Palestine in Ruins: Pakistan’s Strong Condemnation of Israeli Assault on Gaza Flotilla

Palestine, a place turned into dust and debris.

What was once a vibrant land has been reduced to rubble under relentless Israeli military operations that began with the full-scale onslaught on Gaza in October 2023.

The conflict has progressed through multiple devastating phases initial heavy bombardment and ground invasion, followed by prolonged sieges, mass displacements, destruction of civilian infrastructure and weaponization of aid. In the current phase, the systematic targeting and killing of journalists continues, aiming to suppress the truth of the suffering inflicted upon the Palestinian people.

In the latest escalation of this aggression, Israeli forces unlawfully intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla a civilian-led humanitarian aid mission sailing from Turkiye in international waters. This was followed by the arbitrary detention of activists onboard and their reported mistreatment. The incident sparked global condemnation after Israel’s far-right national security minister posted a video showing detained activists kneeling with hands tied and foreheads on the ground.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on May 21, 2026, condemned the actions “in the strongest possible terms.”

The FO statement declared: “The government of Pakistan condemns in the strongest possible terms the unlawful interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli occupying forces in the international waters as well as arbitrary detention and reported mistreatment of humanitarian workers onboard.”

Notably, those detained include Pakistani humanitarian activist Saad Edhi, son of prominent social worker Faisal Edhi and grandson of late Abdul Sattar Edhi. Pakistan has demanded the immediate release of all illegally detained activists and called upon the international community to ensure their safety, dignity and fundamental rights.

The Foreign Office further stated that it remains in close contact with Pakistani diplomatic missions in the region to secure the safe return of any detained Pakistani nationals.

This strong diplomatic response builds on an earlier joint statement issued by Pakistan along with nine other countries (Turkiye, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, Maldives and Spain) condemning Israel’s interception of the Gaza aid flotilla.

Pakistan will never recognize Israel. This principled position remains unchanged and is rooted in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and statehood. Recognition can only come after a just, comprehensive settlement that establishes a sovereign, independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN and OIC resolutions.

As Gaza continues to endure unimaginable suffering, Pakistan stands resolute in its support for justice and a free Palestine. The international community must act decisively to hold aggressors accountable and ensure the delivery of aid to those in desperate need.
