PM Shehbaz Meets Qatari Emir, Reaffirms Strategic and Economic Partnership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting with His Highness Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, in Doha on February 24 to review bilateral relations and advance cooperation across political, economic, and regional domains.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir were also present, underscoring the significance Islamabad attaches to its partnership with Doha.

According to an official statement, the two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral ties and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening longstanding fraternal relations between Pakistan and Qatar. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of political engagement and agreed to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, particularly economic collaboration.

His Highness Sheikh Tamim reiterated Qatar’s commitment to elevating economic cooperation to a higher strategic level, signalling confidence in Pakistan’s economic direction and investment potential. The leadership-level engagement reflects a shared resolve to translate strong political ties into tangible economic outcomes.

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They reaffirmed support for closer coordination within multilateral fora and agreed to maintain close consultation on major regional issues.

The visit highlights Pakistan’s proactive regional diplomacy and its efforts to consolidate relations with key Gulf partners. Observers note that Qatar’s growing economic engagement with Pakistan could further strengthen trade, investment flows, and strategic coordination.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his invitation to the Emir of Qatar to undertake an official visit to Pakistan. His Highness graciously accepted the invitation, with the visit scheduled to take place later this year, signalling continuity in high-level engagement and sustained momentum in bilateral relations.
