Nearly five years since the Taliban retook Kabul in August 2021, the question of what, if anything, has changed under the movement’s rule remains unresolved.
Extremism in Pakistan is frequently examined through terrorist incidents, militant organisations, and security responses. Far less attention is given to the underlying doctrinal frameworks that enable such movements to emerge, evolve, and regenerate over time.
On May 2, 2026, an X Space session was held under the title “One Year Later: Military Gains, Diplomatic Wins and Pakistan’s Position.” The discussion assessed Pakistan’s evolving strategic posture in the aftermath of developments following May 2025, with a focus on shifts in military credibility, diplomatic positioning, and international perception.
