Politics Beyond Perception

The recent report by CBS News regarding the presence of Iranian aircraft at Nur Khan Airbase serves as a prime example of sensationalized media narratives that appear more like propaganda than objective journalism. This angled reporting must be viewed through the lens of CBS’s corporate architecture, where editorial priorities are set by figures such as editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and Shayndi Raice, both of whom are identified as having publicly pro-Israel stances. Because CBS sits within a massive corporate orbit controlled by the Ellison family and RedBird Capital, its foreign coverage is often viewed by critics as being driven by specific agendas rather than a commitment to factual regional stability. In sharp contrast to these misleading portrayals, Pakistan has consistently acted as a transparent, impartial, and neutral mediator between the United States and Iran, focusing on the complex task of resolving highly consequential historical conflicts rather than seeking “headline diplomacy” or “brownie points”.

The reality of the situation is grounded in the essential logistics of the “Islamabad Talks,” where aircraft from both the United States and Iran were utilized to transport diplomatic, security, and administrative personnel. While American aircraft and security teams were relocated to regional US bases after a few days, some Iranian aircraft remained to facilitate subsequent senior-level diplomatic exchanges, such as visits by the Iranian Foreign Minister. In its official statement, Pakistan categorically rejects the CBS report as “misleading and sensationalized,” asserting that such speculative narratives appear “aimed at undermining ongoing efforts for regional stability and peace”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that these aircraft arrived during a ceasefire period and bear “no linkage whatsoever to any military contingency or preservation arrangement,” directly contradicting insinuations made by certain quarters of the media who appear driven by “spoilers” rather than facts.

As a responsible global peacemaker and facilitator of dialogue, Pakistan remains determined to carry forward its sincere mediatory efforts despite these attempts to create a “story out of nothing”. Pakistan’s role as a direct but neutral arbiter is essential for de-escalation, and the country continues to play a constructive and active role in pursuing a negotiated settlement in the interest of regional and global security. Ultimately, the goal of Pakistani mediation is to provide the necessary administrative and logistical support to both sides to further the cause of peace, remaining unfazed by media efforts to incite a fresh spate of violence.
