“Locked And Loaded” Trump Holds Fire As Iran Talks Continue

Iran And The US

President Trump told the Financial Times he has no immediate plans to strike Iran: “I’m ready, we’re ready. We’re locked and loaded if we need to go, but there may be no reason for it.” He added, “We seem to be getting everything we want.” Indirect talks on the enriched uranium stockpile continue, which is the outcome Pakistan has consistently urged: dialogue over bombardment.

Iran — In Minsk, Deputy FM Khatibzadeh said “The Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought nuclear weapons, does not seek them and will never seek them.”

IAEA — Grossi said “there has been a significant physical degradation of the infrastructure of Iran’s nuclear program”. Iran still enriches to 60% without full transparency.

Gulf And Yemen — The US Embassy in Riyadh warned that Houthi hostilities “have the potential to escalate rapidly.” Yemen’s interior minister claims IRGC and Hezbollah experts are directing Houthi operations, though that claim remains unverified. UKMTO reports a tanker was hit by two unidentified projectiles off Oman. For Pakistan, whose energy lifeline runs through these waters, maritime instability is a direct national interest.

Arms Control And UN Disarmament

On 2 November, the First Committee approved “Conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels” (A/C.1/81/L.6), sponsored by Pakistan and Belarus. The vote was 180 to 2, with only India and Israel against (UN press release GA/DIS/3783). The world stood with Pakistan’s vision of regional restraint; New Delhi stood with almost no one.

Pakistan — MOFA PR No. 317/2026 calls the resolutions “practical, cooperative paths to reduce risks, build trust and promote international and regional peace and stability.”

India — India argued that security interests go beyond regions and questioned whether the Disarmament Commission needs to do more work on this. It also voted separately against the paragraph referring to South Asian arms control proposals. The “global issue” argument is a convenient shield: a state building the region’s largest conventional arsenal has every reason to avoid any framework that measures balance in South Asia. When 180 nations see merit in regional restraint, isolation is not principle, it is exposure.

Nuclear Safety — Zaporizhzhia

Russian plant management says a Ukrainian drone killed two people in a car, including a plant employee. The plant says she is the 13th worker killed since April, calls it “targeted terrorism”, and will inform the IAEA (Straits Times/Reuters, TASS).

Ukraine — No comment.

IAEA — After a worker died on 29 October, it called attacks on plant staff unacceptable. It has not yet commented on this death.

Missile Defence And The Arctic

Greenland’s parliament ratified the deal on 3 November by 16 to 0, with 7 abstentions. It provides for new US areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, an expanded Pituffik and Golden Dome. It reaffirms Danish sovereignty and has no end date.

Greenland — FM Múte B. Egede said “peace and stability are no longer something we can take for granted.”

Denmark — The Folketing votes on 19 November.

US — Trump treats it as an executive agreement, so no Senate vote is needed.

Middle East — US Aid To Israel

Trump says about $4bn a year in aid ends from 2027, though arms sales continue. WSJ, citing a person familiar, says Israeli security officials were surprised. Netanyahu’s office did not comment (AP, WSJ). Notably, Israel was India’s only partner in opposing Pakistan’s arms control resolution this week.

Europe And Russia

WSJ reports NATO strategists are shifting from “roadblocks” to hitting bases, depots and industry inside Russia. There is no official NATO statement.

US Politics

In the latest Reuters tally, Democrats take the Senate 50 to 49 and Republicans hold the House 222 to 213. Counts are still moving. AP called North Carolina for Cooper and Georgia for Ossoff (Reuters results, AP live).

US Intelligence

Eight officials, mostly anonymous, told Reuters that sharing with Congress and across government “has slowed and, in some cases, temporarily stopped” under Trump. CIA spokesperson Liz Lyons said the agency “participates fully.”
