China Offers 400,000 COVID Vaccines to Afghanistan

As Afghan officials stated last Monday that  China has promised to deliver 400,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine COVID-19 to Afghanistan.

In a meeting with health officials, the Chinese ambassador in Kabul said, \”China would provide 400 000 doses of the COVID-19 immunisation to Afghanistan,\”

The World Health Organization has approved the Sinopharm in China. However, it is still not clear when the vaccine will arrive in Afghanistan.

The Vaccination Campaign in Afghanistan

Additionally, In 34 provinces of Afghanistan, only over 12,000 health workers have received the vaccine.

Moreover, according to another official, the vaccination for members of the security forces was in process. He did not show his identity because they were not allowed to speak to the media under conditions of anonymity.

Taliban Response to the Vaccination Process

Horrifically the Taliban have intensified their attacks against the Afghan government since September. Sonn after the US-led peace talks hosted by Qatar. The Taliban denied involvement in the rise of violence in large part. Interestingly, the Taliban also expressed support for the vaccination campaign.

Furthermore, Afghanistan received the AstraZeneca vaccine from India. Reportedly, last Tuesday Afghanistan received 500,000 vaccines.

Afghanistan Plead for International Community

Afghan health officials have pointed out that international vaccines cover 20 per cent of the country\’s 38 million population. The COVAX programme will provide access to COVID-19 vaccinations. This applies to all developing countries.
