Kathmandu, Nepal – Nepalese police have shot and arrested Guddu Patel, an Indian national, in Gothatar, Kathmandu, in connection with the cold-blooded murder of Lal Mohammad nearly 18 months ago in the same area. Patel, identified as a sharpshooter, was apprehended after he allegedly resisted arrest.

According to Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Patel was a key suspect in a case that involved nine individuals, all allegedly part of a transnational criminal network. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kajikumar Acharya confirmed that Patel was shot below the knee to subdue him before being taken into custody. He is now receiving medical treatment at a local hospital under police supervision. Authorities believe Patel was planning to flee Nepal when intercepted.

Patel’s involvement in the murder of Lal Mohammad, a well-known figure in the local business community, has drawn significant public attention. Mohammad was gunned down in broad daylight in an attack that sent shockwaves across Kathmandu. The police suspect the crime was orchestrated by a criminal syndicate with ties extending beyond Nepal’s borders. Investigators are now working to track down the remaining suspects involved in the assassination.

Even before Patel’s arrest, Nepalese law enforcement had been monitoring increased cross-border crime, particularly involving contract killings and gang-related activities. This case has raised concerns over Nepal’s security vulnerabilities and the growing influence of organized crime networks operating between Nepal and India.

This arrest highlights how deeply criminal networks have penetrated society,” said lawyer Ramesh Koirala. Local businessman Rajesh Gupta called for “stricter border controls to prevent such incidents.”

The police have vowed to tighten security measures, ensuring justice for Mohammad’s family while dismantling the criminal network behind the attack.

The Re-Emergence of Terror: Afghanistan as a Global Terrorist Hub

The Taliban’s return to power has revived Afghanistan’s role as a global Terrorist hub.
