India Orders to Remove Online Posts; As Social Media Causes Panic Amidst COVID

The government of India ordered Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to take dozens of social media posts that criticise its handling of the pandemic. As India is struggling with a devastating second wave of Covid-19 spraying throughout India.

Reportedly, the order aimed at around 100 positions. This includes criticism from opposition politicians. Furthermore, the opposition in many of its posts demanded the resignation of Narendra Modi, Indian Prime Minister.

Additionally, the government says that the posts can cause panic, use pictures outside the context and prevent the pandemic\’s response.

Unanimously, the companies have fulfilled their requests for now. Consequently, the companies have disclosed the posts to people using the locations within India. In the past, firms have reported content after they have determined that it has not violated the law.
