Five Suspects Arrested in Wake of the Anti-terrorism Court Judge’s Murder

The assassination of Swat anti-terrorism court judge and his family took place on Monday. The authorities called for an immediate operation in Peshawar and Khyber. The operation resulted in the arrest of five criminals.

Judge Aftab Afridi Including his wife, daughter-in-law and three-year-old grandson were all killed while travelling from Peshawar to Islamabad. As reported the daughter-in-law was also six months pregnant. The incident took place at the Swabi interchange. It was dubbed a \”targeted attack\” by police.

An immediate operation was carried out in Peshawar. Majid Afridi, Aftab Afridi\’s son, will recognize the perpetrators, according to DPO Swabi. The attack also resulted in the wounding of two armed guards in the judge\’s convoy. According to the FIR, the family was returning to Islamabad after attending a wedding in Peshawar.

President of SCBA accused:

Additionally, The FIR includes the names of six others, including the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. In response to which Abdul Latif Afridi, President SCBA, labelled this as a false accusation, against him and his son. Further stating that they \”have nothing to do with this matter\” and would comply with all related authorities. SCBA secretary Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana informed that the two men were busy \”transecting their family affairs\” when they found out about the incident.

Furthermore, the SCBA chief also criticized the attack. Upon expressing his views he stated that it was against Pashtun customs and societal values to attack women and children.

The lawsuit marked the violation of multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. These included, sections; 302, 342, 148, 149, 109, 427, 353 and 34. The lawsuit also highlighted the violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act, section 7.

Prime Minister takes to Twitter:

Prime Minister Imran Khan acknowledged the incident and promised the punishment of the perpetrators. He further stated, “Strongly condemn the murder of ATC judge Aftab Afridi, his wife, and two children at Anbar Interchange, Swabi,”.  The PM also took to Twitter to give an affirmation that the suspects will be prosecuted for this \’heinous crime\’.
