Pakistan and China Reaffirm Bilateral Relations, Dar Rejects Allegations in Diplomatic Talks

On January 28, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its strategic relationship with China. This meeting followed rising criticism regarding Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s involvement in an event linked to the New Federal State of China (NFSC), an anti-China group. Despite the controversy, Pakistan’s position on its alliance with China remains steadfast.

The meeting came a day after Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) issued a strong statement rejecting what it termed as “baseless and unfounded” allegations targeting Pakistan’s longstanding friendship with China. A spokesperson emphasized that China remains Pakistan’s “all-weather strategic partner,” highlighting the deep-rooted cooperation between the two nations. The spokesperson also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the One-China Policy, a core tenet of Pakistan’s foreign policy that continues to guide its international stance.

Both countries share mutual trust and values, and Pakistan values China’s support on issues of core concern. This partnership is not only fundamental to regional stability but also plays a key role in global peace efforts. In the wake of external criticisms, the FO clarified that there is no shift in Pakistan’s policy toward China.

The two sides also reviewed progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which Pakistan views as crucial to its economic future. Both countries pledged to continue enhancing cooperation through initiatives such as CPEC 2.0, ensuring that projects contribute to mutual prosperity and economic growth.

Additionally, Ambassador Jiang, on behalf of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, invited Dar to attend a UN Security Council event, “Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance,” which will be hosted by China under its presidency of the UNSC on February 18, 2025, in New York. Dar accepted the invitation, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation on global governance issues.

This meeting underscores the resilience of Pakistan-China ties, showing that despite external challenges, both nations are dedicated to fortifying their relationship and addressing misunderstandings effectively.
