Elected to Three UN Bodies A Big Foreign Policy Win for Pakistan

Pakistan was elected to three primary UN bodies on Wednesday, according to the country\’s Foreign Ministry.

The country is elected to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) after elections held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday, according to the ministry. The elections took place at the UN\’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which has 54 members.

As reported, the CCPCJ and CPD with unanimous support from all ECOSOC members, elected Pakistan. While on the other hand, Pakistan also won 50 votes in the balloting for CSW members. The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) has elected Pakistan for the sixth time. The council also includes; Qatar, Thailand, India, and Bahrain.

Furthermore, Pakistan received 50 out of 53 votes in the election for the Commission on the Status of Women\’s membership (CSW). China, Iran, Japan, and Lebanon were all elected to the UN Security Council.

Global Response and Pakistan

“Pakistan will continue to foster international cooperation for combating transnational organized crime and improving efficiency and fairness of criminal justice administration systems; promote gender equality and women empowerment; and support initiatives aimed at assisting countries in developing their capacity to produce and analyze population data and information,” the ministry said.

In response to the world\’s election of Pakistan to three significant bodies, Muni Akham shared his opinion. Munir Akram, Pakistan\’s permanent representative to the UN and president of the ECOSOC. He stated that the global response was a show of \”trust and faith\” in Pakistan.

He went on to say that Pakistan\’s election as a member of three separate commissions at the ECOSOC is a clear vote of confidence in Pakistan\’s position by the international community.

These commissions are crucial in improving international relations on a variety of social and economic problems.

Pakistan will join these three commissions on January 1st of the following year.

Meanwhile, India secured the membership of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). India also secured the membership of the UN-Women Executive Board, and Executive Board of the World Food Program (WFP).

Pakistan is working to improve regional relations between the United Nations and its member states. This is in order to tackle national and transnational terrorism, such as organized crime and money laundering. It will also help to improve the effectiveness and equity of criminal justice administration processes.
