Security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least six terrorists, according to security sources on Tuesday.

The attempted assault involved suicide bombers from the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who drove two explosive-laden vehicles into the perimeter of the cantonment, triggering massive explosions.

Despite facing stiff resistance, the attackers attempted to breach the cantonment’s perimeter by ramming the vehicles into the compound’s walls. However, security forces at various entry points to Bannu Cantonment neutralised six terrorists and apprehended several others before their attack could cause further damage.

The explosion from the bomb-laden vehicles caused significant collateral damage, including the destruction of a nearby mosque and the collapse of a house’s roof.

According to a spokesperson for the District Headquarter Hospital, the blasts resulted in at least 15 civilian casualties, including four children and two women, while 25 others sustained injuries.

The quick and decisive actions of the security forces have been credited with preventing further loss of life and protecting the cantonment from a major terrorist threat. The clearance operation is ongoing to ensure that all remaining militants are neutralised.
